DAY 1.  Jessica Bussert  |  Founder & CEO Thursday, April 9th

It’s been a long and chaotic couple of days and I’m not even in New York City yet. After repeated flight disruptions and rescheduled, I’m finally on my way. The first leg of my flight from Indianapolis to Charlotte left at 5 a.m. this morning. It was strange having such a large aircraft being virtually empty. I’m now sitting in Charlotte waiting for my last flight to LaGuardia. I am very thankful that the Starbucks was open because I’m having a difficult time keeping my eyes open.

Packing for two months

Just late yesterday afternoon I was notified that I needed to get recertified in three areas before starting work.  All in all, this represents about 20 hours of studying and tests over my Easter weekend. What makes matters worse is that the testing website wasn’t working last night and so I couldn’t even put to effective use the time stuck in the hotel. That left only reviewing a collection of very dry PDF study documents on my laptop’s screen. Not what you would call compelling reading! The sum total of this is that I might not be able to start at the hospital until the following week.
I’ll be able to assess this all better once I get situated into my apartment. It’s a third-floor walk-up and I’m dreading dragging two 50-pound suitcases and my other luggage up those stairs! Between those stairs and 12-hour shifts in the emergency department perhaps I’ll finally lose that weight I’ve been wanting to get rid of! –JB @BussertJessica
